2017 Shansi Prize Winner: Sarah Chatta
Sarah's project grew out of the fifteen oral histories she collected over two months in India on a Shansi In-Asia Grant during the summer of 2014. The personal stories explore the impact of the 1947 Partition on individual lives and are a combination of oral and written histories, ethnography and memoir.

Shansi Awards Six In-Asia Grants
Oberlin Shansi has awarded In-Asia Grants to six intellectually and socially engaging projects for Winter Term and summer in 2017. The projects will take place in China, India, Japan, and Vietnam.

Eight Obies are about to embark on their Shansi journey! The newly selected Fellows are Peter D’Auria ’14 (not pictured), Lyric Grimes ’17, Olivia Hay ‘17, Kayla Johnston-Mitchell ’17, Brendan Nuse ’17, Hyacinth Parker ’17, Franklin Sussman ‘17, and Aliya Tuzhilin ’17. The Fellows will spend one to two years living and working at Shansi’s partner institutions in China, India, Indonesia, and Japan.

In Remembrance of Dr. Charles A. Ryerson
I am deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Charles A. Ryerson (Shansi Representative to Madurai from 1955-58). Dr. Ryerson graduated from Oberlin College in 1955, and landed in Madurai, India soon after.
