Eight Obies are about to embark on their Shansi journey! The newly selected Fellows are Peter D’Auria ’14 (not pictured), Lyric Grimes ’17, Olivia Hay ‘17, Kayla Johnston-Mitchell ’17, Brendan Nuse ’17, Hyacinth Parker ’17, Franklin Sussman ‘17, and Aliya Tuzhilin ’17. The Fellows will spend one to two years living and working at Shansi’s partner institutions in China, India, Indonesia, and Japan.

In Remembrance of Dr. Charles A. Ryerson
I am deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Charles A. Ryerson (Shansi Representative to Madurai from 1955-58). Dr. Ryerson graduated from Oberlin College in 1955, and landed in Madurai, India soon after.
Shansi House Welcomes Nesren Hefnawy and Hengyu Zhang
This year Shansi House will be home to Nesren Mohamed abd el Mohsen Hefnawy, Fulbright Arabic Language Teaching Assistant, who is teaching all three levels of Arabic: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

This Winter Term, three First-Year students and one Second-Year student will travel thousands of miles across the world to bring their creative and dynamic projects to life in Asia. “Congratulations! Each member of the winning team gets a Qingdao beer!” That’s how my doctoral class ended in late April 2015. Each spring semester, a different group of students chooses a topic for the week, organizes a discussion based on a reading, and creates a game to help the class. This week’s topic was wine and cocktails.
