Welcoming our Spring 2020 Visiting Scholars!
Oberlin Shansi would like to welcome our three new Visiting Scholars! This semester we are joined by Dr. Angel Christy from Lady Doak College, Irma Suryani from Syiah Kuala University, and Upi Isabella Rea from Gadjah Mada Univeristy. They are very excited to take classes at the college, conduct independent research, and attend conferences outside of Oberlin. We've provided brief bios below. If you see them on campus, feel free to introduce yourselves!
Dr. Angel Christy
Dr. Angel Christy is a professor in the Department of Commerce at Lady Doak College. She teaches courses on marketing, business management, accounting, and finance. At Oberlin, Dr. Angel is looking forward to auditing course in the Economics Department and getting a sense for the different organizations on campus. Specifically, she plans to pursue research on the Peer Advising Leaders Program and the Oberlin Student Cooperative Association. She hopes the knowledge gained through this research will enable her to enhance the student organizations on her home campus.
Irma Suryani
Irma Suryani is a professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. At Syiah Kuala, she teaches courses on human resource management, business, and organizational behavior. While at Oberlin, Irma is excited to begin learning about the U.S. higher education system and teaching methods through classes in the Economics and Psychology departments. She is hoping to gain an understanding of new research methods to help her publish academic papers in the future.
Upi Isabella Rea
Upi Isabella Rea is currently a PhD candidate at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Upi is pursuing a PhD in American Studies, specifically focusing on American education policy. She plans to take classes in the Politics and Comparative American Studies departments. Upi is excited to get a better sense of how various national educational policies have affected academic institutions, and plans to incorporate research completed in Oberlin into her dissertation.
