Stories of Resilience
The 2022 "Stories from the Field" are up on the Shansi website!
Every year, our Fellows offer the Shansi and Oberlin communities a glimpse into their lives and work in Asia. As most of our opportunities went remote due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the content and tone of these stories shifted. Rather than talking about travels, food, local artistic endeavors, or new friendships, Shansi Fellows wrote about their adjustment to a changing world. Despite the enormous challenges and disappointments our Fellows have faced since 2020, they shared their experiences with humor and vulnerability.
This year, another tide is shifting. As we've reopened in-person programming in India and Indonesia, Fellows had the opportunity to recount their stories of engaging with students and colleagues over meals and coffee. Our Japan Fellows continue to achieve goals, navigate challenges, and find community. As our China Fellows continue to teach remotely, they have been able to show creativity in their teaching while contextualizing their experiences within a broader sociopolitical landscape.
The Shansi staff is exceptionally proud of our Fellows - for these stories, for their dedication, and for who they are as young professionals and people. They are currently writing a new chapter in Shansi's history, and we are honored to cheer them on.
