Shansi Welcomes New Deputy Director and Returned Fellow

Oberlin Shansi is thrilled to welcome two new members of the team. Ted Samuel and Louise Edwards joined us in mid-August as Shansi's new Deputy Director and Returned Fellow.

Ted joins the Shansi team after serving for more than three years as the Resident Director of the South India Term Abroad (SITA) program in Madurai, India. During his time with SITA and in previous stints in Madurai, Ted has known quite a few Shansi Fellows. He has extensive experience working with students studying and working abroad as undergraduates and post-graduates. He is energetic and enthusiastic, and has great cross-cultural sensitivity and adaptability. I am thrilled that he will be joining the Shansi team.

Ted has a Masters and PhD in Anthropology from American University, and a BA in International Studies from Kenyon College. He was a recipient of a Clinton Fellowship from the American India Foundation, which allowed him to work with People's Watch Tamil Nadu, a leading Indian human rights and anti-corruption NGO. He was also a Peace Fellow, under which he worked for Jagaran Media Center in Kathmandu. Ted has also served as a Global Awareness in Action Program Leader at Putney Student Travel and as a Marketing Associate at the Corporate Executive Board.

Our new Shansi Returned Fellow for this year is Louise Edwards, who just completed two years as a Shansi Fellow at Shanxi Agricultural University in Taigu, Shanxi, China. Louise was a Creative Writing and Neuroscience double major at Oberlin, where she served as Arts Editor of the Oberlin Review and spent time studying and interning abroad in Namibia, South Africa, and St. Croix.
