She has also been involved in planning Oberlin’s annual Asian Night Market, and is looking forward to eating at the night markets in Asia. Le’Priya White ‘19, a sociology major, is the 2019-2021 Fellow to Shanxi Agricultural University in Taigu, China. In Spring 2018, Le’Priya studied abroad in the Dominican Republic, where she enrolled in a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) course. This course inspired her to further explore teaching as she is interested in intercultural communication and language learning. As a Mellon Mays fellow, she conducted research on fashion of Queer/Trans people of color at predominately white institutions. She is interested in learning more about the idea of fashion as a language and a form of communication. In addition, during her time at Oberlin, Le’Priya has been involved in several cultural musical ensembles, such as Oberlin Steel (OSTEEL), the Javanese Gamelan ensemble, and a Brazilian ensemble. Le’Priya aims to explore her passions for music and language learning in China.
