Announcing the 2024 Shansi Fellows
We are excited to announce the selection of eight new 2024 Shansi Fellows who will be working with our partners in China, India, Indonesia, and Japan. This was an exceptionally competitive year for the Shansi Fellowship, and we are thrilled to welcome the newest members of the Shansi community.
Our new China Fellows are Haley Sablay ’23, a Sociology major with Comparative American Studies and Politics minors and Nissa Berle ‘24, a Psychology major with a Linguistics minor. They will be based at our historic partner, Shanxi Agricultural University.
In India, Sophie Bernstein ‘22, an Environmental Studies and East Asian studies double major with a History minor, will be joining the Keystone Foundation in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in Tamil Nadu. Caris Gross ‘23, a Theater major with a minor in Russian, will serve at the International Studies Center at Lady Doak College in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
Our new Indonesia Fellows, Mia Bird ’24, a Biology major with a Dance Minor and Education Studies concentration, and Yana Levy ‘24, a Religion major with a Politics minor, will be based at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta and Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, respectively.
In Japan, Alex Billingsley ‘24, an East Asian Studies and Musical Studies double major, will join the English Language Program’s teaching faculty at J.F. Oberlin University in Machida. Sophie Qano ‘24, a Psychology and Environmental Studies double major with a Peace and Conflict Studies concentration, will work in Hiroshima with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, and nongovernmental organizations ANT-Hiroshima and Green Legacy Hiroshima
