Eleanor O’Brien '27
Winter Term 2024
Suzuki and Singapore
During the 2024 Winter Term, Eleanor spent time in both Japan and Singapore, pursuing an in-depth study of Suzuki Pedagogy at the Matsumoto Talent Education Institute and Chamber Music at the Singapore Chamber Music Festival. Drawing on her experience as a beginner violin teacher in high school, Eleanor gained a better understanding of the intents behind the Suzuki method by working closely with Hiroko Toba, a teacher at the Institute. In Singapore, she joined the rest of the Pandan Quartet and worked with accomplished musicians and ensembles from throughout Asia. The connections she established during her time in Japan and Singapore will have a lasting impact on her future career and the greater Oberlin community.
