Dina Nouaime ‘23
Dina Nouaime ‘23 presented her artwork and accompanying interviews this spring at the Multicultural Resource Commons. Nouaime was granted the $300 AAPI Experience grant for this project “Tchotchkes, Trinkets, & Tales: Material Culture and Identity” as a way to explore the relationship between memento items and the ideas one holds about their identity.
The project took two main forms: paintings and interviews with Asian Americans about their relationship with certain significant items in their lives. After interviewing her subjects, Nouaime created a visual narrative about the items that were described to her, and portrayed this through mixed-media paintings.
