Endowment & Planned Gifts

Taigu Fellows and friends

If you believe in what Shansi does, and share our commitment to making opportunities for immersive cultural and educational exchanges available to future generations of Oberlin students and Shansi partners, please consider making a gift to our endowment and including Shansi in your estate and tax planning.

Donations to Shansi’s endowment funds help secure our future. Donations can be directed to General Endowment support or to one of the following named funds: The Carlson Fund (in memory of Ellsworth and Bobbie Carlson); The Fellows Fund; The Jacobson / Cocco Fund (in honor of Carl Jacobson and Deb Cocco); and The Leonard Fund (in memory of Peg Leonard).

Your gift will help expand Shansi’s endowment and generate income that enables us to implement and expand our programs. This can mean more Shansi Fellowships, In-Asia Grants, Visiting Scholar awards, and other opportunities for Oberlin students and our Asian partners.

ENDOWMENT GIFTS

Current gifts to help build Shansi's endowment can be made online or via regular mail, and can be directed to the general endowment or to a specific endowed fund, such as the Fellows Fund, the Carlson Fund, the Leonard Fund, or the Jacobson/Cocco Fund.

Online: Click the yellow "Donate" button  below to securely donate online through PayPal. You can use your PayPal account if you have one, but you do not need a PayPal account to make a credit card donation. Please indicate "General Endowment" or one of the named funds in the Note field so that we know how to direct your gift. Shansi will receive confirmation of incoming donations and we will send you a letter of acknowledgement and thanks for your gift. To ensure that letter will get to you, please check the box to share your mailing address with us as you go through your PayPal transaction.

Snail Mail: If you would prefer to send your contribution by mail, please click here for the Oberlin Shansi Printable Donation Form and send your check and the completed form to:

PLANNED GIVING

There are quite a few ways you can support Shansi in your estate and tax planning

  • Providing a bequest in your will or trust.

  • Naming Shansi as a beneficiary on a retirement plan, life insurance policy, or bank or investment account; or

  • Make annual Qualified Charitable Distributions to Oberlin Shansi directly from your IRA accounts.

There are many ways to make a gift that might be right for your personal financial situation. We recommend that you consult with a professional advisor when planning an estate gift.

If you have questions, please contact Gavin Tritt, Executive Director of Oberlin Shansi, at gtritt@oberlin.edu or (440) 775-8605.

And if you are moving ahead, please complete the Oberlin Shansi Declaration of Testamentary Intent and send it to the Shansi Office. It will help us to more effectively plan for our future. All information will be held in strictest confidence and is non-binding.
