Oberlin Shansi awards funding to programs proposed by chartered student organizations, faculty or departments, and program houses at Oberlin College on Asia and Asian American issues.
Allocations normally will not exceed $1,000. For requests exceeding $1,000, applicants must consult with Elaine Vukov, Assistant Director. Proposals under $1,000 should be submitted at least one month before funds are required. However, groups are encouraged to apply in the semester prior to the event because funds are limited.
Programs may include guest lectures, seminars, cultural events and film series on cultures, politics, human rights, environmental concerns, contemporary issues and so on. Priority will be given to programs that are collaborative and bring diverse communities together. There are no funds available for individual student projects, on-going programs such as newsletters, travel to or fees for conferences, and other types of initiatives normally funded by Oberlin College. Checks will not be made out to individual students and there will be no retroactive funding. Shansi’s sponsorship must be recognized in all publicity and at the event.
Application forms are available at the Shansi Office or you can download an On-Campus Program Grant Application. Please contact Sophie Grimes, Oberlin Shansi’s Campus Coordinator, regarding any questions or concerns.
